Navigating a Complex Cultural Landscape
Certainly, growing up in Syria would have exposed him to a complex and (many different kinds of people or things) cultural (wide view of a nature scene/wide area of beautiful land). Syria is a country with a long and rich history, and as a result, it has been shaped by many different cultures, religions, and (groups of people related by culture, race, religion, etc.) over time. For example, it has been influenced by Arab, Tur kish, Persian, and Kurdish cultures, among others.
Also, modern Syrian (community of people/all good people in the world) has been shaped by many different forces, including French (a stronger country controlling and taking advantage of a weaker one), pan-Arabism, and Islamic (strictly following religious laws). All of these factors have added/have given to a complex and sometimes (something that goes against or disagrees with something else) cultural (surrounding conditions) in Syria, with different groups fighting for power and influence.
Given this complex cultural (wide view of a nature scene/wide area of beautiful land), it's understandable that the individual in question might struggle to find a sense of belonging or identity. They may feel torn between different cultural influences, or they may struggle to identify with any particular group or community. This sense of cultural dislocation could certainly add/give to feelings of fear and stress-related, depression, or other mental health issues.
